MKS &CGS Units of Pressure | Units of Pressure Conversion

MKS CGS units of pressure conversion: There are so many units of pressure. Sometimes it becomes confusing to understand these units  of pressure. If you’re confused about these MKS CGS units of pressure and their conversions, you have come to the right place.

This is one of the best articles on internet. It will describe all units of pressure in a simple way. Let’s move ahead.

Different Units of pressure-

MKS(SI) unit of pressure:

Pascal, or N/m², is the Mks unit of pressure. This unit is derived from simple pressure formula i.e., pressure= force/area, which is Newton (=kg×m/s² unit of force)/ metre square ( unit of area). And 1 N/m² is also called Pascal.

CGS unit of pressure:

We know that CGS stands for centimetre-gram-seconds. So, by converting N/m² (Pascal) into CGS system, we will find that the unit of pressure is comes out to be g/cms², which is 10 times that of the MKS system.

basic conversions

Atm 1.013×10⁵ N/m²
Bar 10⁵ N/m²
Psi 1 bar = 14.5 psi
Torr 1 mm of hg
Pascal 1 N/m²
N/m² 1 pascal
mm of hg
760mm of hg = 1atm
Kgf/cm² 1 bar = 1.02 Kgf/cm²

Conversions of different units of pressure :

  • 1 kPa (kilo Pascal) = 1000 Pascal
  • 1 MPa ( mega pascal) = 10⁶ pascal
  • 1 atm (atmospheric pressure at sea level) = 1.013×10⁵ N/m² = 1.013×10⁵ Pascal
  • 1 atm = 1.013 bar
  • 1 atm = 760 mm of hg
  • 1 mm of hg = 1 torr
  • 1 bar = 10⁵ N/m² = 100 kPa
  • 1 bar = 14.5 psi (pounds per square inch)
  • 1 bar = 1.02 Kgf/cm²
These were the MKS and CGS units of pressure and their conversions.I Hope you liked it. Please do share it with your friends.
